Donald Garvelmann, a Sorabji friend and enthusiast who died in 2001.

          Songs of Sorabji Concert-Lecture
             This concert lecture is dedicated to the memory of the late Don Garvelman   

Award-winning soprano Elizabeth Farnum, virtuoso pianist Margaret Kampmeier and Sorabji scholar Bruce Posner join forces for a performance and appreciation of composer Kaikhosru Shapurji Sorabji.  Several Sorabji songs will receive their world premiere that evening.  

In addition to the works of Sorabji, examples of the songs of his contemporaries, including Busoni, Medtner, Warlock, Caplet and others, will be performed.

Ms. Farnum's and Ms. Kampmeier's presentations of the songs will be complemented by Mr. Posner's discussions of the composer’s work, his influences, his achievements and his place in music.

This concert-lecture is being given to celebrate the release of Ms. Farnum's world premiere recording of Sorabji: The Complete Songs for Soprano  (Centaur Records), and will be dedicated to the memory of NYC resident Donald Garvelman, a Sorabji friend and enthusiast who died in 2002.  

The concert begins at 8:00 p.m. and there will be a post-performance reception in the second floor lounge.
